Grand Seiko Heritage 55th Anniversary SBGY009 Released in 2022 as a part of a limited celebratory collection to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the 1967 release of the original 44GS the SBGY009 utilises a manually-wound version of the innovative movement that has made Grand Seiko famous the world over. This allows the case to come in at a slender 10.5mm, and with it measuring in at 40mm across it is in the goldilocks zone for most wrists. The proportions are phenomenal, and the use of Ever-Brilliant steel, a hard-wearing alloy that is hailed as the worlds most corrosion resistant steel, makes it all the more special. It features a whiter colouring than usually seen in steel, something more along the lines of white gold, which helps accentuate the beauty of the 44GS case. While we think the case is the star of the show, the dial is equally as breathtaking with its midnight blue stamped sunray pattern. Pictures don’t do the dial justice, in person it’s even better, subtle yet distinctive. The lack of clutter on the dial, along with the Zaratsu polished hands, and the gold seconds hand sweeping around the dial in the way only a spring drive equipped movement does, means it is absolutely captivating every time you look down at your wrist. As always, finishing is absolutely superb and it’s all topped off with the fantastic ‘gator strap on steel deployant. This particular example was sold new in August 2022 and presents in TZ 'Good' condition. The broad polished lugs show scratches and minor rub marks, though nothing deep. Bezel shows harilines and swirlies. Brushed surfaces are very clean, with some small marks present where they meet the polished flanks. Caseback shows swirlies, and lugs show very minor strap change marks. Has been graded as 'Good' rather than 'Excellent' according to the TZ scale due to a very small nick on the left side of the case where the brushed mid-case meets the polished case back.
