Chopard Mille Miglia 2020 Race Edition 42mm 168589-3028 We're not sure any racing partnership has been quite as enduring as that of Chopard and the Mille Miglia 1000. Chopard have been the official timekeeper since 1988, and in the fickle world of brand partnerships, it's really saying something that both of these iconic brands have continued their support of one another. This is the variant created for the 2020 Mille Miglia, and is one of the coolest releases so far. It features a 42mm steel case, which has been DLC-coated in a bead blasted, matte finish, and is just 12.67mm thick, with a very wearable 50mm lug-to-lug measurement (the same as a Black bay 41). The dial continues on with the all-black theme, with a matte dial featuring a textured finished which echoes the case finish, and a lovely ecru finish for most of the printing which lends a warmth not seen with stark whites. The iconic red Mille Miglia logo is complimented by the subtle red-tipped chrono hand, and the whole watch has a racing/military vibe which is a world away from the highly polished, glitzy so-called sports watches we often see. Powering it is an automatic COSC-certified ETA-2892 with Dubois-Depraz Chronograph movement that is nicely decorated, and sits behind a smoked sapphire case back. We love the Mille Miglia detailing surrounding, and it feels very well executed indeed. It's finished off with a racing calfksin strap, which is rubber lined with the typical Mille Miglia 60's Dunlop tyre tread pattern, and is matched by a DLC-coated pin buckle. This example would date from 2020 and presents in in TZ 'Good' condition. The case shows almost no marks at all, and the reason it has been graded as 'Good' is the presence of a singular ding on the bezel beneath 6. It hasn't taken off the DLC coating, and in all honesty we didn't even notice it when wearing it for a couple of days. Please see images for full condition details. The strap is in excellent condition. The stitching shows some wear on the 6 side, but other than that it's in fabulous shape. No service history that we're aware of, but a little young for that. Currently running at around +7 seconds a day at 290+ degrees of amplitude measured dial-up on a timegrapher. Chrono starts, stops and resets as it should and date changes over at midnight. Comes with outer box, inner box, and instruction booklet. No papers. Inner box shows quite a bit of wear to the red lining. Limited to 1,000 pieces, this is a super cool sports watch for those who love their motorsport. With an RRP of $14,300 AUD, pick up this excellent example at a fraction of the price.
