Grand Seiko Hi-Beat GMT 'Dawn of Mount Iwate' L.E. SBGJ021 Grand Seiko don’t seem to be able to put a foot wrong in recent years, and in 2016 the 500 piece limited edition SBGJ021 joined the ever-growing catalogue of amazingly finished, superbly built and mechanically interesting collection. Featuring the classic 44GS 40mm case in steel with it's hand finished Zaratsu polishing, it houses a stunning 'Dawn of Mount Iwate' dial which is inspired by the first light of dawn hitting Mount Iwate, the mountain that overlooks the Grand Seiko studio where the watch is assembled. The dial's color changes from brown/aubergine in low light to a deep shimmering red in direct sunlight, and is just spectacular in person. It's topped with applied hand-finished markers and GS' trademark super-sharp and exquisitely finished hour and minute hands hands, with a gold GMT hand which matches the gold 'GMT' script. You'll also note that this is the earlier Seiko/Grand Seiko double-signed dial, a feature we love and miss from the newer references. Powering it is the 9S86 Hi-Beat automatic movement with a very cool anodic oxidation finish on the rotor, and it's finished off with a stainless steel bracelet making for a practical daily and travel watch with the finishing and quality synonymous with Grand Seiko. This particular piece would date from 2016 and presents in TZ 'Good' condition. Has been worn regularly, and the case shows scratches and swirles, along with some small pin dents on the lugs. Bevel lines show some small nicks, and there's a small ding on the left side of the case in the middle. Caseback shows swirls and hairlines. Please see images for full condition details. Bracelet is fully linked, and shows desk dive marks throughout. Service history is unknown. Currently keeping COSC time measured dial-up on a timegrapher, and all functions operating as they should. Comes with outer box, inner box, instruction manual, warranty booklet (blank), and Seiko Inspection Certificate. A rare and sought after limited edition.
