Grand Seiko Hi-beat GMT 'Green Iwate' Limited Edition SBGJ005

Grand Seiko Heritage Hi-Beat Boutique Edition 'Green Iwate' SBGJ005 Grand Seiko don’t seem to be able to put a foot wrong in recent years, and in 2014 the 500 piece limited edition SBGJ005 joined the ever-growing catalogue of amazingly finished, superbly built and mechanically interesting collection. It was especially mechanically interesting when new as it debuted the 9S86 Hi-Beat movement, and so was quite a big deal upon it's release, and it's desirability has not waned in the years since. Featuring the classic 44GS 40mm case in steel with it's hand finished Zaratsu polishing, it houses a stunning 'Green Iwate' dial which is inspired by the verdant green fields surrounding the Shizuku-Ishi Grand Seiko Studio. It's topped with applied hand-finished markers and GS' trademark super-sharp and exquisitely finished hour and minute hands hands, with a gold GMT hand which matches the gold 'GMT' script. You'll also note that this is the earlier Seiko/Grand Seiko double-signed dial, a feature we love and miss from the newer references. Powering it is the 9S86 Hi-Beat automatic movement with a very cool anodic oxidation finish on the rotor, and it's finished off with a stainless steel bracelet making for a practical daily and travel watch with the finishing and quality synonymous with Grand Seiko. This particular piece was first sold in Japan in 2014 and presents in TZ 'Good' condition. The case is in excellent condition, with light scratches and swirles present on the Zaratsu polished surfaces, as well as the bezel. We've graded it as 'Good' rather than 'Excellent' on the TZ scale due to some minor indentations presents on the top of the upper right and lower left lugs. Assuming these would have been some small dings that were refinished in it's service by Grand Seiko a few years ago. It presents beautifully on the wrist.
