Sergey Chutov Fortress III Limited Edition Stories like that of Sergey Chutov are what independent watchmaking is all about for us. People finding their calling in life, leaving behind the mundane and pursuing passion above all else, which is exactly what Sergey did when he left his career in Moscow as a civil judge in 2018 and threw himself headfirst into horology. After 4 years of training he realised his dream to become a watchmaker, and Sergey Chutov watches was born. How cool is that? Independent watchmaking from Russia has always intrigued us as the makers their develop their own style working outside of the Swiss system, and they tend to create watches unlike any others. Chutov's first watch was the Fortress, and this has developed into many iterations, evolving over time. This version is known as the Fortress IV, and is an very cool piece of watchmaking. The case itself is made of stainless steel and measures in at 41mm, with a lug to lug of 49mm and thickness of 12mm. Within this case lies a stunning dial in which the upper portion is made of Sterling Silver, with the lower part in Copper, which is then sandblasted, painted coral and varnished. It's topped with steel sword hands. Powering it is a manual wind ETA Unitas 6498-2 Top Grade, visible through the mineral crystal case back, and it's finished off with a blue handmade Croco strap. This particular example is the first in the series and presents in TZ 'Excellent' condition. The case itself shows only the most minor of hairlines and swirls, but we've considered it 'Excellent' rather than 'Near Mint' as the movement shows some discoloration on the bridges, as well as some dust flecks and small marks. Currently keeping COSC time at around -10 seconds a day at 300+ degrees of amplitude dial-up on a timegrapher, and all functions operating as they should. Comes with outer box (damaged), inner box, and cleaning cloth. No papers. Please note the outer box shows quite a bit of damage.
