Behrens Inventor Series Apolar Blue 42mm BHR020 Behrens are doing some seriously impressive stuff in the independent space, and if you've not heard of them yet, you'd be doing yourself a disservice not to dig a little deeper into their innovative, and frankly unbelievable value, watches. Founded in 2012 in Shenzhen, in a short 14 year timespan they've developed a huge amount of in-house manufacturing, allowing them to create unique concepts and architectural displays unheard of at these price points. This particular reference is known as the Apolar, and is part of their Inventor Series. Nominated for the Best Calendar and Astronomy category at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) in 2020, it utilises a stainless steel case measuring in at 42mm, with beautifully notched lugs, and a thin, polished bezel. It's just 12.5mm in thickness, which is very impressive indeed when you look below the sapphire crystal and see just how much is packed within this moderate case size. So what are we looking at? Well firstly, the time telling display is the two discs at 6, with then hours on the left, and minutes on the right, which are read by using the two arrows between them. A seconds hand sits at the centre of the dial, and above this is a 24-hr scale indicated by a 3D earth. This is all then surrounded by a moonphase, which follows a 28-day cycle, rotating around the dial. Power is provided courtesy of the robust and eminently serviceable Sellita SW200, with a module on top for the complications, and it is finished with a supple rubber strap with a highly detailed steel tang buckle. It also includes a 'gator strap from Behrens if you'd like a slightly more formal look. This particular example was first sold in 2024 and presents in TZ 'Near Mint' condition, with barely any signs of use on the case. Please see images for full condition details. The rubber strap is near-new, and the 'gator strap is unworn. Buckle shows the most minor of desk dive marks. Remains under the balance of manufacturers warranty, and is currently keeping time at around +11 seconds a day at 300+ degrees of amplitude measured dial-up on a timegrapher. Comes with outer box, inner case, strap case, 'gator strap, manual, booklet holder, cleaning cloth and warranty card dated November 2024. An absolutely unbelievable watch for the money.
