Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Rose Gold / Cream 5146R-001 When collectors think of Annual Calendars, they usually think of Patek Philippe and for very good reason. That's because they invented the complication, and it has become synonymous with the brand. First introduced with the 5035 in 1996, the annual calendar complication is similar to a Perpetual Calendar, but does not track February. This may seem like a lesser complication, but in fact it was engineered much later than the Perpetual Calendar, and it's design requires many less moving parts than most Perpetual Calendars, increasing reliability and robustness. Changing the date once a year is a small price to pay for this added reliability. This particular Annual Calendar reference is the 5146R, and was introduced in 2005. The beautifully proportioned case measures in at 39mm x 46.8mm lug-to-lug and 11.3mm thick, and is crafted in rose gold. It feels phenomenal on the wrist, with its Goldilocks sizing combined with the heft of the 18k rose gold. Housed within this magnificent case is a cream lacquer dial with large Arabic numerals in rose gold for 9, 12 and 3, complimented by faceted and polished dart indices sitting inboard of a railroad track minute scale. The annual calendar is wonderfully readable despite the complexity, with day and month sub-dials, date window at 6, with a classic moonphase above it. A nicely integrated power reserve indicator sits below 12. It is topped with leaf hands, which are lumed for practicality, and combined with the lume dots within the minute track for the hours, it is highly legible even in low light. Powering it is the Patek-sealed in-house automatic calibre 324, with a lovely level of finish as you'd expect, and it's finished off with a brown Patek 'gator strap, and a beautiful rose gold deployant which perfectly balances out the weight of the case. This particular example was first sold locally in 2021 and presents in TZ 'Excellent' condition. The case shows hairlines and swirls as you'd expect of gold, though nothing large or deep, and a couple of very minor scrapes, one near 12 on the bezel, and the other below 6 on the midcase. It remains unpolished. Please see images for full condition details. The strap is in superb condition, and the buckle shows minor desk diving marks. No service history, but a bit young for that. Keeping COSC time measured dial-up on a timegrapher at 300+ degrees of amplitude, and all functions operating as they should. Comes with outer box, inner box, booklet holder, booklets, Certificate of Origin dated January 2021, hang tag, and corrector pin. A fantastic example of one of Patek's most iconic modern Annual Calendar references.
