Grand Seiko Elegance Collection Limited Edition SBGK007 Released in 2019, the Elegance series is perhaps our very favourite line from Grand Seiko, combining perfect proportions, compelling dial options, and manually wound movements to provide the perfect take on the daily-dress watch. The dial is usually the undisputed star of the show with a Grand Seiko, but in the Elegance series the case is equally as important to what makes them so special. The proportions of the 39mm steel case are phenomenal, with the curvature of the case and lugs that seem to wrap around the bezel making for an almost-cushion shaped case that feels very organic on the wrist. Within this spectacular case is a dial probably not usually associated with modern Grand Seiko, with their emphasis on texture and colour. For the SBGK007, they've gone for a decidedly vintage inspired dial. To be honest, when we first saw this dial option in photos we thought it was perhaps a little plain, and moved on past it. But that was a mistake. In photos it appears to be a plain white-ish dial with little depth, and that always-controversial power reserve indicator. In person, it is a masterpiece of design, and quite simply one of our favourite modern GS dials. It features a subtle curvature, dipping towards the rehaut. The power reserve indicator is etched into the dial, and with the curved hands and subtle sunburst finish it lends a sense of depth you'd be surprised at if you'd only seen it in photos. The colour of the dial is special, too. It's not a plain white, but more of a pale silver with champagne hues, and has a warmth that is unexpected. It quickly went from a dial we scrolled past, to one we bought and kept on our wrist. It's very, very nice in person, and feels like the perfect partner to the Elegance case. Powering it is the 9S63 manual wind movement with 72 hour power reserve, and allows for a thickness of 11.6mm even with the curved sapphire. As always, finishing is absolutely superb and it’s all topped off with the fantastic black Croc strap on steel deployant. This one owner example was sold new locally in 2020 and presents in TZ 'Excellent' condition. The case shows swirlies and some small scratches/scuffs on the polished sections, with strap change marks on the rear of the lugs. Brushed surfaces are very clean with only minor signs of wear. There's a few small 'flea bites' on the left side of the case where the brushed surface meets the polished lugs near the bezel, but are very minor. Please see images for full condition details. The OEM strap has plenty of life left, and the steel deployant shows minor desk dive marks. No service history, but still a little young for that. Currently keeping time at around +7 seconds a day measured dial-up on a timegrapher. Comes with outer box, inner box, warranty booklet (expired), GS inspection certificate, hang tag, and instruction booklet. RRP was $10,900 AUD - save big on this excellent example.
